Division Manager/Project Executive

Division Manager/Project Executive, Construction & Energy (Confidential) | Houston, TX or anywhere with airport access

Run a business, not just a project. This Division Manager owns the full P&L of an energy construction division: the annual plan, the cash flow, the backlog and the team on each project.

The company. Our client is a 100% employee-owned national specialty contractor with more than a century in business, more than 10,000 employees and multi-billion-dollar annual revenue. Its energy group builds the infrastructure that generates, stores and delivers power, and ranks among the leading renewable EPC firms in the country.

The market. Power demand is climbing on the back of data centers, electrification and domestic manufacturing. Meeting it takes every source: solar, wind, battery storage, natural gas, nuclear, hydro and hydrogen, plus the substations and high voltage lines that move power to the grid. The group works today in solar, storage, substation and high voltage scopes, with a mandate that is broadening across high-demand energy markets.

Who this fits. Renewable Energy EPC, Commercial Construction or Electrical Contracting. Your title today may be Project Executive, Senior Project Executive, Operations Manager, Regional Manager or Division Manager. What matters is that you have run large projects or a business unit with direct accountability for financial results. This role carries the Division Manager title. If you hold a VP title today, we are glad to walk you through how the scope, ownership economics and runway compare.

Responsibilities & Oversight

  • Division P&L, annual business plan, operating budget and positive cash flow
  • Every project in the division, through feasibility, preconstruction, estimating, procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout
  • Oversight of estimating and preconstruction so the division wins the right work at the right margin
  • Client and owner relationships, in partnership with Business Development
  • Project Managers, engineers and field leaders: hiring, mentoring, performance reviews and leadership development
  • Safety, quality, schedule and cost at completion, alongside General and Area Superintendents
  • Revenue recognition, alongside Finance

Desired Experience

  • 10+ years in construction with direct P&L or project financial responsibility on large, complex work
  • Working knowledge of every stage of project delivery
  • A record of building teams and developing the next generation of leaders
  • Strong problem-solving across many variables at once
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management or equivalent experience

Compensation and ownership. Competitive base salary of $225K – $275K and an annual bonus tied to performance, profitability and achievement. Total Comp will be between $325K – $400K. They offer an Employee Stock Ownership Plan funded entirely by the company at no cost to you, separate from your 401(k). Company revenue has more than doubled since 2019, and a Division Manager who owns a P&L is one of the roles with the most direct influence on share value. Benefits include a robust PTO plan plus 10 paid holidays, medical, dental and vision, life and disability coverage, flexible spending and a charitable giving match.

Location and travel. Live in Houston or anywhere you can reach projects from. Expect 25% to 50% travel to sites and to where the business needs you.
